Soaking up the sun is sport in Pesaro along Italy’s Adriatic coast. The beachfront location of this Le Marche town makes for a holiday resort for many. However there is much more to this resort town than umbrellas and suntan lotion. Through Pesaro’s winding, ancient pedestrian zone, you will find the home to composer Gioachino Rossini. Hop in the car hire and cruise to Pesaro and find out just what this city is composing.

Begin at Casa Rossini

Many travelers begin their trip through Pesaro at Casa Rossini. The home is where the famed composer was born in 1792. Today, the site details the history of Rossini and the opera throughout the early 19th century. Visitors can troll through prints, personal and effect and portraits paying homage to Rossini himself.

Head for the art history at Musei Civici

Musei Civici presents Pesaro’s history through art. The town’s original art gallery displays pieces like Giovanni Bellini’s magnificent altarpiece depicting the coronation of the Virgin. Visitors can also see Pesaro’s 700-year-old ceramic tradition, considered one on Italy’s best collections of majolica ceramics.

Stroll The Seafront Promenade

Pesaro is perhaps best enjoyed along the seafront promenade. The space presents a fine spot to sit and look longingly toward the sea. It is considered the town’s main attraction, set up along Piazzale della Libertá. Plenty of benches along the promenade make this an enjoyable perch for people watchers.

Be floored by Pesaro’s Cathedral

While the Pesaro Cathedral presents an attractive Romanesque façade, it is the church’s early Christina mosaics that have many talking. The mosaics were revealed after excavations. Travelers can see the intricate designs through glass panels set up on the church floor.

Sample Piadina

If you want to look like a local, order up some piadina. Piadina is a typical local food from the region of Italy. It consists of a torilla like flatbread filled with meats, cheeses and other toppings depending on what you want to sample.

Linger in Piazza del Popolo

Piazza del Popolo makes up Pesaro’s main square. You will find plenty of people to watch here along with attractive structures like the grand Ducal Palace.
